Want to get your new puppy off on the right paw?  This is a MUST class for all puppies from 10-16 weeks of age.  Puppies will be ready for what is in store for them in the outside world.  The scary things in life will be dealt with in a doggy friendly manner.  Imagine the scary vacuum cleaner, the strange looking man, meeting other canines, sudden loud noises, body handling- all things that your puppy must adjust to for a healthy well-being.  Your puppy will experience these and more in a controlled and safe environment. Puppy questions will be answered.  Fun activities and puppy games will be high on the list of class sessions. Foundation skills including attention, focus, accepting body handling, sit and down stays, recall, settle, and targeting are covered. We troubleshoot problem behaviors such as mouthing and biting, chewing forbidden objects, and potty accidents.  At the end of the course, you and your puppy are tested for the S.T.A.R. Puppy certification through the American Kennel Club. Follow this course with Puppy Pre K and Kindergarten. * Puppy does not attend the first class.

Nose Work®

6 Weeks | $150

Fridays 10:00 a.m. | Starts 1-10-20 Intro to Nose Work

Thursdays at 11:30 l $131

Continuing Nose Work Starts 1-09-20

K9 Nose Work is a fun search and scenting activity that virtually all dogs and their people can enjoy.  It starts with getting your dog excited about using his natural hunting instinct to find a treat or a favorite toy hidden in one of several boxes.  As your dog grows more confident with his nose, the game expands to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles.

Advanced K9 Nose Work focuses on increasing your dog’s scent discrimination skills, adding special target odors to the search.  This course is for any dog that has taken at least 1 prior course at Hole In The Wall. Dogs work one at the time and alone, so your dog must be comfortable in the car or crated out of site until it is his/her turn to work. No prior dog sport experience is required.  It is especially helpful for shy, fearful, or reactive dogs because dogs are always separated and the game is always played one dog at a time. If you and your dog are destined to face new, and greater challenges together and experience the excitement of competition, K9 Nose Work® is also an organized, titling sport with official trials across the nation.

This course is taught by a Certified Nose Work Instructor candidate with NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work).

Repetition is the key to a success.  This course combines dog manners with more challenging activities . Reinforcement of skills needed for the Canine Good Citizen Test or Canine Life and Social Skills certificates are addressed. . This is a 5 week course.  Both the handler and dog should come with enthusiasm, a sense of humor and lots of patience.   Using various techniques, the dog will learn to perform some fun tricks.  By the end of the course the dog should be able to show a variety of tricks that have been learned in class and practiced at home.  Foundation behaviors are needed for this course.  This course gets your dog ready for the American Kennel Club Trick Dog Title.

This course will orient the handler and dog to the theory of Clicker Training, use of the clicker vocabulary relating to Clicker Training, markers, treats and methods to produce behaviors that are desired.  Shaping, capturing, and other methods will be used to form desired behaviors.

This is a hands-on course with the handler and dog participating in various exercises and activities.  At the end of this course both handler and dog should feel comfortable using the clicker and be on their way with foundation skills and behaviors. The first class is held without dogs. This course is offered on request.  Sign up a few of your dog friends and together discover the fun of clicking!

See you in the Spring

Let’s take a walk around town and work on polite and loose leashing walking.  Dogs will practice outside manners crossing streets and dealing with real distractions. This course will be held at a different outside venue each week to give the dogs experience in different settings.  The first class will be held in the training center.  Classes will be held twice a year in cool/warm weather. Not only is this a great class for the dogs but think about the exercise you will get from it.  Pre-requisite: Doggie Manners or permission from the instructor. Class is offered on demand.

Potential owner trained service dogs need the right temperament.  The dog starts with socialization and basic training at an early age, if that is an option. Customized training may take up to 2 years or longer. Training includes private lessons and may include group classes.  Task training and public access training begins with a well mannered dog. The dog is trained to assist a person with a physical or mental impairment which limits one or more major life activities. The dog is trained tasks or work to mitigate the disability.  A challenge is that most dogs are not appropriate candidates. A strong commitment of owner and financial support is necessary. A contract is developed after the trainer agrees to work with the owner and dog.  There is no guarantee that a dog will be successful and qualify as a service dog. Many people confuse Therapy Dog and Emotional Support Animal with Service Dog.
